Angela's Book History

I love reading books to escape everyday life.

After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse

After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse - Charlaine Harris The Book That Shall Not Be Named had an abomination. Just when you thought it was over, the sadness continues if you can be bothered to read this book. Save your money. The dream ended five books ago.

Dash and Dingo: In Search of the Tasmanian Tiger

Dash and Dingo: In Search of the Tasmanian Tiger - Catt Ford, Sean Kennedy Where to start?

I adored Sean Kennedy's previous outings with Tigers and Devils and then the follow up Tigerland, so decided to try another novel involving the same author. This book was co written with Catt Ford, who I haven't read before. I have to say Dash and Dingo didn't really gel with me. I felt the plot was a bit weak, when trying to build up the villain of the piece Hodges. Hodges just didn't feel menacing enough to me. This meant that the ending to his part in the story felt anti climatic.

I missed Kennedy's characteristic humour from the other two books I've read and thus the humour which was in the book felt kind of forced to me. I really wanted to like the story, but felt I didn't connect with either Dingo or Dash. Thus not invested in their story it was a real struggle to get to the end of the book.

The book was told large from Dash's POV, just there were jarring instances where we had Dingo's POV. When Dingo's POV was inserted it didn't fit with the flow of the novel, as it Dingo's POV could be in the middle of a paragraph which had started off from Dash's POV.

It was just an okay read for me. If there is a sequel I won't be reading it.
SPOILER ALERT!

Blood Bound

Blood Bound - Patricia Briggs I enjoyed book #2 in the continuing story of Mercy Thompson. My favourite part was Briggs unique take on vampires and I liked the direction the story is taking from this angle. The demon storyline was interesting and I was a tad distrustful of Andre from early on, so his storyline wasn't too much of a surprise.

Can't wait to move onto book #3.

One Salt Sea

One Salt Sea - Seanan McGuire I enjoyed this 5th book in the series. The world building continues at pace and there was enough action to keep me in suspense and wanting to read on.

Tigerland

Tigerland - Sean Kennedy I enjoyed this second instalment of Simon and Declan's story. It was great to catch up with them and see where they were in their lives. Of course nothing stays the same and their lives have changed. The only thing I missed was Fran and Roger. I wanted more of them as I loved the interaction between Simon and them in the first book.

The Story of Beautiful Girl

The Story of Beautiful Girl - Rachel Simon Great recommendation by a friend. I enjoyed that book and the glimpse into mental institutions within the USA. I warmed to Lynne, Homan and Martha quickly and this meant I was engaged in the story and cared about what happened to the characters. The story in the end was uplifting, even when there were moments where I gasped in horror and anguish.

Tigers and Devils

Tigers and Devils - Sean Kennedy This book remains one of my all time favourite books. I love Simon and Declan. The wit and humour in the story is complying and while the story is told from Simon's perspective, it's told in such a way that you are never bored.

The Blinding Knife

The Blinding Knife - Brent Weeks Fantastic second instalment in The Lightbringer series. I enjoyed every moment of it and kudos to Brent Weeks that he surprised me often. One nugget of information I had already figured out and I was pretty pleased to be right. The book ended on a cliffhanger and I can't wait for Book #3 to be out to see what happens next.

My complete review of this amazing book is at The Saucy Wenches Book Club.

The Black Prism

The Black Prism - Brent Weeks I can't say enough great things about the writing of Brent Weeks. I think I've become a fangirl. I loved The Black Prism and I shouldn't have been surprised given how The Night Angel series has been one of my great finds this year.

So like Weeks requested I'm trying to spread the word far and wide that I even wrote a review. I love this kind of fantasy. Fast paced, action packed and a ton of WTF moments. Looks like a leaf has been taken out of the great WTF author George R.R. Martin's handbook. Expect the unexpected and you will be pleasantly surprised. Well maybe not always pleasantly.

Have I already grown attached to some of the characters? Yes I have. Will there be heartbreak for me? Bound to be.

If you haven't read this start of The Lightbringer series. I highly recommend it.

Vertigo (Channeling Morpheus, #2)

Vertigo (Channeling Morpheus, #2) - Jordan Castillo Price Oh Wild Bill. You just might be the hottest thing I've discovered in a long time.

Manikin (Channeling Morpheus, #3)

Manikin (Channeling Morpheus, #3) - Jordan Castillo Price Loved it. The other vampire in it was creepy, but as usual the story engaged me and Wild Bill had me at his mercy. (If he wanted). Sadly I'm not his type.

Ever After

Ever After - Kim Harrison I completely enjoyed this book. It is easily in my top 3 in the whole series. The demon story line has me riveted and I'm kind of glad the vamps appear side lined. I know this has to be resolved, but the demons are far more entertaining.

My opinions of a few characters has definitely changed as the series has progresses and I love nothing better than a black character suddenly being shown in shades of grey.

A Perfect Blood

A Perfect Blood - Kim Harrison I enjoyed A Perfect Blood. Not enough Al though!!!!! The action remained fast paced and entertaining.

Spider's Bite

Spider's Bite - Jennifer Estep This book kept coming up on my GR recommendations. I started reading it and thought, I've read this book before. Unfortunately it can't have been very memorable for me the first time around as I didn't recognise the author or the title. It was just okay for me. I couldn't get into the main character though. I wanted to like her, but it just wasn't a series for me.
SPOILER ALERT!

Pale Demon

Pale Demon - Kim Harrison Love it. I think this was my favourite of the series to date. The whole demon story line has me hooked. I can't wait to get up to date now. Trent - great surprise about him. Okay so maybe my view of him is starting to change. He might not be as bad as I envisioned. The book kept a fast pace which kept me lapping up the chapters. Although I'm feeling sorry for Al. Who will do room construction for him????

Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet

Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet - Darynda Jones Another great addition to the series. I want Ubie and Cookie to get it on like yesterday. Throughly entertaining. A couple of good plot twists near the end, but not enough Swopes for my liking. Donovan made me drool.
